I have co-founded the Time Keepers with Sean Óg Crudden to help transit agencies improve service reliability by leveraging Big Data. We develop, implement, and maintain the open-source software, TheTransitClock. To predict transit arrivals in real-time, we have developed a Kalman Filter algorithm, which detects unusual operating conditions and adapts the predictions accordingly. Our team was selected by Metro Transit to predict the arrivals of 1,400 buses in Minneapolis/St. Paul following a month-long pilot, in which TheTransitClock was found to out-perform competing proprietary software.
